PAK vs ENG: England’s tour of Pakistan T20I, Preview

PAK vs ENG

PAK vs ENG: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has selected a 19-man team for the upcoming seven-match Twenty20 International series that will take place in Pakistan. This tour will be one of the most important in the Lions’ long history. The last time England traveled to Pakistan was during the stretch of 2005–2006, and the country will host the England national cricket team for a three-match test series after the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022.

After hearing that New Zealand had called off their tour of Pakistan on the same day that they were scheduled to play their maiden one-day international match against Pakistan, the England squad decided against going to Pakistan and cited safety concerns as their reason for not going.

However, this time around, the England board has committed to playing seven Twenty20 Internationals first. These matches will be a part of England’s preparations for the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022, which will be held in Australia. However, the squad that was announced for the Twenty20 Internationals against Pakistan is missing some major players.

English players who are in rehab

Chris Jordan (finger) and Liam Livingstone (ankle), who are both nominated for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup team, will continue their rehabilitation and will not tour Pakistan ahead of the World Cup. However, both players remain on track to be healthy for the competition in Australia.

Although Jos Buttler, the captain of England, will be traveling to Pakistan while he is healing from a calf injury, it is anticipated that he would be available to participate in the latter portions of the seven-match series.

PAK vs ENG: Big names left out from the English squad

During the seven Twenty20 Internationals that will take place in Karachi and Lahore between September 20 and October 2, 2022, Jos Buttler will serve as the team’s captain, and Moeen Ali will serve as his deputy. Karachi will host four Twenty20 Internationals, while Lahore will host the remaining three matches.

Big stars like Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow were not included in the traveling party. Chris Jordan and Liam Livingstone were not selected because of the injuries they had been dealing with. The opening batsman Jason Roy, who has been struggling with bad form for a significant amount of time, was one notable player that was cut from the group.

Additionally, Jordan Cox, Tom Helm, Will Jacks, and Luke Wood, all of whom have no international caps to their names, have been called up by England. On September 14th, the touring party will depart for Pakistan via airplane.

PAK vs ENG: When will PCB announce the squad for the upcoming tour?

In the next couple of days, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will make an announcement regarding the team that will compete against England in the next seven-match Twenty20 series. The match between England and Pakistan is slated to get underway at the National Stadium in Karachi on September 20. England will be in Pakistan for the series. According to the information provided, the visitors are scheduled to arrive on September 15, while the national squad will go to the port city on September 16.

In the meantime, the cutoff date for announcing the team that will take part in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2022 is still September 15, and the Pakistan Cricket Board has not requested an extension from the international governing body.

The decision to just field one side was made by the selection committee because the batters’ performance during the recently concluded T20 Asia Cup 2022 was less than stellar. It is quite likely that the combination of the batting line-up will be changed, and the inclusion of two wicket keepers in the squad is also a possibility. Both of these changes are highly likely to occur.

The deadline for PCB’s squad announcement

The cutoff date for the release of the squad for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2022 is also September 15, but the PCB has not reached out to the international governing body to request an extension. The selection committee has decided to declare only one squad because of the poor performance of the batters in the recently completed T20 Asia Cup 2022. There is a high probability that the batting order will undergo some sort of shakeup, and the presence of not one but two wicket keepers in the squad is also a distinct possibility.

The pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is still under rehabilitation in London as he had suffered from a Posterior Cruciate Ligament injury prior to the Asia Cup 2022. Therefore, it is a headache for the PCB’s thinking panel because he has to start bowling again after recovering from the Injury.

However, the local cricket governing body has plans to get in touch with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in order to ask for a postponement of the deadline. If their appeal is granted, the national team for the World Cup would be selected while they are still competing against England in the series. In all other circumstances, the rosters for both teams, along with the players who will serve in reserve roles, will be made public on September 15.
